Styling Series: Rodeo Edition

Styling Series: Rodeo Edition
Since it’s rodeo season here in Texas, I decided to start our event styling series with the rodeo. Now, rodeos are all about celebrating all aspects of Western culture. You’ll get a chance to experience a real livestock show, country music concerts, rodeo competitions, delicious barbecue and more.

First thing’s first. Your base needs to be comfortable; think: comfy cowboy boots, lightweight earrings, and clothing you feel confident in. You don’t want to be fiddling with your top or worrying about your feet hurting. Rodeos are a marathon full of fun activities - not a sprint, and we need to dress accordingly. Pro tip: break in your cowboy boots before the rodeo.

When adding Western elements to your look, think fringe, turquoise jewelry, statement belts, bandana print, and all the denim. The goal is to add a Western touch to your own signature style, so have fun mixing and matching different Western accessories with clothes already in your closet. A simple jeans and T-shirt can be transformed into a rodeo fit with a Western belt, a bandana, and a pair of cowboy boot.

The cherry on top - your cowboy hat. You’ll want a felt hat if it’s colder than 70 degrees outside, and straw if it’s warmer. If you’re in Houston this weekend for the rodeo, my vote would be to go with a straw cowboy hat given the weather. However, straw hats are considered less fancy than felt cowboy hats. Pro tip: if you have bangs like me, pin your bangs back with bobby pins; this way you can take your hat off, unpin your bangs, and you won’t have hat hair.

I’ve shared some ideas of how you can transform your closet staples into an elevated Western rodeo look.

Can’t wait to hear what you think!
